Mercy Malaysia UK Projects
MERCY Malaysia is a non-profit organisation focusing on providing medical relief, sustainable health-related development and risk reduction activities for vulnerable communities, in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
We provide emergency medical and humanitarian aid, in both crisis and non-crisis situations, regardless of race, religion, culture or boundary. We go beyond the emergency phase of a natural disaster, and we carry out prevention and preparedness programmes to minimise risks in the event of future disasters. We carry out sustainable development by helping communities find ways to prepare and protect themselves in the event of natural disasters, rebuilding and refurbishing hospitals and health clinics and providing health training and education. Our aim is to build resilience in all the communities we touch.
It started with just one brave Malaysian doctor, Dr Jemilah Mahmood, who put her life on the line to help others in a crisis situation. She founded MERCY Malaysia in 1999 driven to inspire other Malaysians to volunteer their time away from home and make a difference to people impacted by a crisis or natural disaster.
Today, we have more than 7,000 registered volunteers, including Malaysian doctors and nurses, operating in 19 countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America. Since its inception in 1999, MERCY Malaysia has been present in more than 26 countries and territories. Today, our efforts are benefitting more than one million individuals.
