Where the power of running unites people to make a difference in the places we run.
After an extraordinary inaugural race in 2016 the 2nd iteration is set to be extraordinary event. The Athlete's Village is set in the shadow of the Himalayas, with outstanding projects to get stuck into throughout our Impact Week and probably the most brutal finishing hill of any marathon in the world.
Not just a race but a week-long community engagement and world-changing adventure. This is your chance to link in with the extraordinary Nepali culture and create a platform for change. We here to embrace Nepal and to develop the discussions and the opportunities to build a strong future for the country.
The Athletes' Village will be your home for the week. Possibly one of the world's most breathtaking campsites. You'll rise each morning to behold the entirety of the Himalayan mountain range. Our campfire will serve as a melting pot of stories and connections to bring the 200 runners together as one.
Living in our Athlete's Village is an unforgettable experience. Rise each morning to yoga as the sun rises over the Himalayas, spend the day working on inspiring projects in the local community, enjoy Momos and a cold beer at the Sunset Bar...then wrap up warm for a peaceful sleep. Not bad eh?
The entire week is about community: the Nepali community; the Athlete's community and your own community at home. This is not a race but a platform to create massive social change and you are about to become part of a global movement to unleash the #powerofrunning.
For those who want that little bit extra. Your first night will be in a beautiful 4* hotel in central Kathmandu before heading up to our stunning campsite in Nuwakot. Just one other roommate here, and when we say room we mean a huge tent, with beds, shelves, seats. We have created your glamping (glamorous camping) to ensure that even if this is your first night under canvas, you will be a few steps closer to heaven. It's simple but it will feel like home, your own cocoon above the clouds. You will open your tent to the north each morning and take in the wonder of the Himalayas. You have showers, private dressing area and toilets just a few feet from your tent.
We’ll be meeting in the vibrant city of Kathmandu, where we will be staying the first night of our adventure. After your flight arrives in the afternoon, you’ll be whisked to your hotel. Here you’ll get to know your fellow travellers whilst enjoying an evening of amazing Nepali food and start learning more of what you'll be experiencing this week.
A full day spending time with the projects and people you’ll be supporting, really getting to know them and seeing the difference you have made first hand. In the evening we’ll be travelling up to the stunning Athletes' Village where we will be spending the next few days living with the community. You'll arrive in the dark so get ready for a wonderful surprise upon waking tomorrow.
Waking up to watch the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas and getting into the swing of community life. The morning Yoga session is one of the highlights of the trip, simply unmissable. For those wanting to get a feel for the terrain then you can also head out on one of our training runs. Then the project work begins, depending on your selected UN Global Goal you'll be working with organisations in the southern Nuwakot region to bring about change in their communities.
We rise with the sun to finish our project work as one big happy family. You'll now be feeling far more in rhythm with Nepali life and understanding well the amazing as well as challenging sides to life in Nepal. Seeing your project through to completion will be an outstanding moment and is what makes the Impact Marathon experience completely unique. We finish the day celebrating with a drink or two at our Sunset Bar.
You have a big day tomorrow so time to unwind. We will have some mini-lectures and workshops around the themes of the week and your time in Nepal. We'll also create our pop-up cinema so you can watch the story of Nepal's most famous athlete, the amazing Mira Rai. Overall though, this is your day. Head into the village to buy some lunch, relax with your fellow competitors. In the evening will be the famous pasta party in preparation for race day.
The moment has come. Start line, time to run together, as a community in one of the world’s most outstanding location. The magic of raceday: 2000m of climbing; 42km of running and 25 buckets of sweating awaits you. But get ready for a remarkable finish line moment as you take the final steps of the hardest race of your life. And at that finish line, we’ll have one ridiculous party with special appearances from the most famous bands in all of Nepal. Party into the night, you deserve it...
