Choose Malawi and you'll be joining us on the run of a lifetime in the home of distance-running. Not only will you spend the week on the shores of Lake Malawi (don't forget your cameras for those epic sunrises and sunsets), you'll also have time to meet some amazing projects really making a difference to the communities you will be running through and alongside. Empower yourself and use the power of running to help change lives forever.

For the first few days you'll get stuck into a variety of projects, then after resting up on day 5, you'll join hundreds of locals for the inaugural Malawi International Marathon!

The 42k

All food and waterThe Ultimate Distance! In the Ultimate Location. Distance running is coming home, and you are the one who gets to inspire the world through your running. This is more than just a race, just wait until you are running along the banks of Lake Malawi, enjoying the Warm Heart of the most beautiful continent on earth.

The 21k

This half marathon will be the most wonderful experience for any runner. Set in challenging terrain, it’s a sandy, dusty trail race that has enough elevation to keep your legs happy but enough stunning vistas to keep your mind rewarded! Forget about your Personal Best and enjoy every single step of this unique course

The 10k

Our most accessible race but no less rewarding and beautiful. This will be the most popular race with our Malawian runners and many people’s first ever race. Feed off the excitement and the enthusiasm. You’ll hit the banks of Lake Malawi, as well as the villages we’ve been working in. A 10km race like no other!

Accommodation: Bring your own tent

There are few things more amazing than waking up, under canvas, hearing the sloshing of waves against the sand, opening up your tent to look out over the rising African sun. If you want the value option, and the one that brings you closest to nature than this is the package for you. You'll be required to bring your own camping gear, but after that all your showers, toilets, food is arranged by us in the Athletes' Village.

You will be nestled amongst the trees in our campsite that leads on to Lake Malawi. You will have 6 nights with us, including all your food, in-country transfers, project work, race entry, race stash and your finishing line gifts. This spectacular week includes everything from organising a mental KidsRunWild sports day to building a local pre-school to distributing fuel-efficient stoves. Make no mistake about it, no other race gets you this deep into a rural African community, no other race gives you the experience that Impact Marathons do.

This is running as you've never seen it before...and it's time to secure your place.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrive on day 1 and there'll be a big Impact Marathon hug waiting for you when you arrive at Lilongwe Airport. From there we'll take local transport for the three-hour ride to our breathtaking Athletes' Village. Once there, after settling into your accommodation, we'll have our welcome meeting and talk you through what to expect from the week ahead. Then it's time for our opening night party - a big BBQ on the beach with volleyball, music, dancing and your first African sunset!

Day 2:

And now wake up to your first African sunrise! You will have a full day spending time with the projects and people you’ll be supporting, really getting to know them and seeing the difference you have made first hand. In the evening we’ll have time to share our stories around the campfire, maybe a beer or two and an early night ready for another day’s work.

Day 3:

The projects are varied and today you’ll be exploring some new activities: from digging dams, to installing energy efficient stoves we will be keeping you busy all day long - it’s our goal not just to have our runners working and helping in the community but also learning - about the projects, the difference your money makes, the challenges facing the community - our runners finish the Impact week understanding the difference they are making!

Day 4:

Today we rise with the sun again to finish our projects through the morning. We do mean it when we say there is lots to do!! In the afternoon our KidsRunWild Sports Day takes centre stage with all the children from the local villages bringing their boundless energy to the party. Of all the volunteering, we bet this is the most tiring, but almost certainly the most fun.

Day 5:

Put your feet up, relax, share stories - rest those legs. We’ll have some fun competitions through the day - who is up for our signature 'Build Your Own Raft meets Dragon Boat Racing’? Catchy right?

Day 6:

The moment has come. Start line, time to run together as a community, in one of the world’s most outstanding location. This is the home of distance running, the sounds, smells and feel of today will stay with you for a life time. Forget personal bests and take it all in. There really is no other race out there like this! And at that finish line, we’ll have one ridiculous party for you to dance the night away. You’ve earned it.

Day 7:

The race is over and you'll have the usual aches and pains to remind you. To take your mind off it we have organised some incredible experiences that show you the very best that Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa has to offer. Alternatively you can return home and transfers to the airport are included.
