The beautiful, snow capped peak of Mount Kenya is the second highest point in Africa . It is a challenging and popular destination for trekkers and climbers alike. At 5199m it's quite a climb but anyone fit can make it and some say it's a more technical climb than Kilimanjaro.
There are three main routes and our expert guides take you along the Sirimon route - the quietest of the three with the most gradual ascent profile and best for acclimatization options. You'll pass beautiful Alpine scenery on the way up and an abundance of wildlife too.
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your hotel for the night before leaving for Nanyuki in the morning.
Day 2: Transfer to Nanyuki
We depart from Nairobi at 9am and head out on our grand adventure. Nanyuki is our first destination with a brief stop at the Equator on the way (and why not?) for an acclimatization walking tour. We continue to Nanyuki where we'll check in to our simple hotel. The afternoon is spent preparing for the hike. Dinner and overnight at the budget hotel in Nanyuki.
Day 3: Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp Alt: 3300m. Trek: 6 - 8 hours
After breakfast we hop into our vehicle and transfer to Sirimon Gate to begin our Mount Kenya ascent. We'll hike to Old Moses camp for an overnight stay at 3300m. All meals included today.
Day 4: Old Moses to Shipton's Camp Alt: 4200m.
You will be woken up after your first night on the mountain with a nice cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate in your tent. After breakfast we start today's walking - to Shipton's camp at 4200m for another magical overnight stay on our way to the top! Shipton’s Camp is an excellent setting with the north faces of Nelion Peak and Batian Peak facing you. Trek: 5 - 7 hours
Day 5: Shipton's to Point Lenana Summit Alt: 4985m.
We wake really early his morning for an early ascent to Mount Kenya's third peak - Point Lenana. We'll start walking at about 3am to Point Lenana (4985m) for a pre-dawn attempt to reach the summit when the sun is rising. Afterwards we'll descend to Nanyuki (its quicker going downhill!) for our overnight stay.
Day 6: Nanyuki to Lake Nakuru
Overnight near Lake Nakuru Breakfast, lunch and dinner included Today we leave the Mountain behind us as we drive about 5 hours to beautiful Lake Naivasha for an afternoon game drive or option to hop on a boat for a trip as the sun sets. We'll stay overnight here in a simple hotel.
