Overview

A short African volunteer experience wrapped in a stunning 7 day cultural and wildlife adventure in Uganda. Take up the challenge and fundraise for the Shauku Foundation and help support the community project in rural Uganda. A 2 day volunteer experience to get under the skin of this destination. Enjoy the wildlife safari both on road and on the river, trek the aptly named "impenetrable" African rainforest at Bwindi National Park and come up close to a family of gorillas, a truely unforgettable experience!

Destination

Uganda is the home to some of the worlds most incredible wildlife. It has the highest concentration of primates on earth, including the majestic mountain gorilla, one of the rarest animals on the planet. Head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a chance to get close to these great apes.

Accommodation

The accommodations are all comfortable mid-range local lodges, except for one very basic rural guest house where you will stay while working on the project.

This adventure is for anyone with a love of adventure, the outdoors, and the opportunity to use travel as a means of personal growth and sharing of experiences and cultures. We rate this trip as Awe Inspired, since no technical ability is necessary, however the ideal travelers are team-spirited, not shy to get their hands dirty and willing to engage with the community. Pre-trip training is not necessary. Most of the wildlife trekking is on foot however it is not too intense.

DAY 1

Welcome to Uganda

Our friendly English-speaking guide will pick you up from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda. We will then drive 2 hours to Masaka town for dinner and stay overnight at a boutique town hotel. (D)

DAY 2&3

Volunteer with the local community

Volunteer experience. A great way to get under the skin of Uganda and get stuck into our community project. On both days you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Shauku Foundation’s community project outside Masaka town. Here you will spend two full days volunteer working on the community project and understanding the impact your fundraising makes. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Masaka town. (B, packed L, D)

DAY 4

Safari Ugandan style!

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. This afternoon you will have a boat cruise on kazinga channel. You’ll see a diversity of wildlife, including lions, leopards, giraffes, antelopes, elephants and many warthogs on your Ugandan safari. Stay overnight at a boutique safari lodge at Queen Elizabeth National Park. (B, L, D)

DAY 5

Welcome to the jungle

Morning game drive and then transfer to Bwindi national park. Bwindi National Park is a world heritage site as it’s biologically one of the most diverse forests in Africa. Fondly known as the Impenetrable Forest it remains home to half of the world’s gorilla population. It’s a privilege to be here. Enjoy the view of the forest from your overnight stay at the rainforest lodge we have chosen for you. (B, L, D)

DAY 6

Gorilla Trekking

Early morning to trek through the Impenetrable Forest. Find out how it gets its name as you ascend through a mountainous and heavily forested African terrain. It’s all worth it when you may get the chance to get up close to a gorilla family. Spend an hour watching in awe as they play, forage and interact. Capture the moment and trek back to base. Back to your lodge for a well-deserved shower and rest at the rainforest lodge. (B, L, D)

DAY 7

Depart for home

Transfer back to Kampala and drop-off at Entebbe airport for the outbound flight back home or onwards to Kenya, Ethiopia or Tanzania for your next Inspired Challenge in Africa. (B)
